Employers should update HMRC payroll systems

Employers who use HM Revenue and Customs' employer CD-ROM with which to manage their payrolls are being advised to update it as soon as possible.

This to make sure they have the latest guidance and calculators.

The existing CD-ROM is to be replaced with a new downloadable application, called Basic PAYE Tools, in February 2011.

But downloading the September update means that businesses will be able to make use of the new software.

The September update is available free from the HMRC website at: www.hmrc.gov.uk/employers/cdrom

HMRC is also keen for employers to take advantage of its email alert service.

The alert service informs firms whenever new information is published on the HMRC website.

Employers can register for the service at: www.hmrc.gov.uk/paye/forms-publications/register.htm

Stephen Banyard, director of HMRC's business customer unit, said: "I encourage all employers who use our CD-ROM to download the update as soon as possible, and also register for our email alert service, to ensure they receive all the latest employer news."
